LGBT: Manchester plans gay heritage tour

1 min read
Young gay people in Manchester will take part in a heritage tour of the city during this February's second annual LGBT History Month.

The Lesbian and Gay Youth Manchester group has already created several posters of famous British lesbians for a conference run by Schools Out, the gay rights support group that launched the month. This event will take place on 4 February and will call for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender education to become part of the national curriculum.

Separately, under-25s from the Base Youth Project in Stockport will take part in a panel discussion at a conference to tackle homophobia in schools.

Base, which runs separate groups for young men and young women, will also be running a heritage project, said Alison Steele, the project co-ordinator for Base: "It helps to combat the isolation young people can often feel, and it also helps them with their identity. We are now putting together a gay time line as part of the heritage project." www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk.
