Letters: Two heads are better than one

The 20 per cent of children born into homes where there is no resident father are disadvantaged from the outset. All studies show that children with two biological parents who stay together do best in every area of life. No amount of state support or childcare can ever compensate for a missing parent.

To read in your pages (Hound, 23-29 June) that to say so is tantamount to "demonising single mothers" is ridiculous. Political correctness has become the new fundamentalism.

A friend who regrets her single parenthood listens to her five-year-old son say every night, "where is my daddy?".

It breaks her heart.
