Let us recall that when councils subsumed the responsibilities (and entire budgets) of Connexions partnerships, a significant number decided not to take governmental advice to consider this covered under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) regulations. Several Connexions staff were sentenced to swell the ever-lengthening dole queues.
Having the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Bill potentially amended by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to protect LSC workers' rights was a luxury not afforded in the Education & Skills Act 2008 to Connexions.

RESPECT FOR YOUTH WORKERS
I find it strange that some want to define youth work within a quite narrow field (Youth Work Now, 1 June). There is a big difference between a "voluntary sector" as understood by government and individual volunteers involved in youth work. At the end of the day, these volunteers are predominantly extra-timers.
