Letters: Importance of intervention

1 min read Letters
One of the most significant things in the Department for Children, Schools and Families' excellent report on early intervention is the recognition that early intervention is an "attitude of mind" that must run throughout the work of all children's and family services, rather than an individual programme.

There are individual pockets of transformative practice out there, but there is a fundamental misunderstanding by too many who work in children and family services that early intervention is somebody else's business.

While individual families and parents do not use the jargon, early intervention is exactly what they have told our Family Commission they want - help that is available before a problem becomes a crisis. Graham Allen MP and Iain Duncan Smith MP should be congratulated for all that they have done to put early intervention on the political agenda, but now we must all work together to make it a reality.
