Letter: Proper parenting support

Parenting orders have their place and some children and parents show real benefits from them (Children Now, 7-13 September). But they should only be used when court coercion is justified and other options have failed.

So many parents, especially those with teenagers, are crying out forhelp and advice, but find none until their child gets into trouble.Every Child Matters promised accessible parenting support for all andthis should surely be the priority rather than more court orders atearlier stages. Let's hope the new task force will be more imaginativethan simply repackaging existing policies.

Kathy Evans, policy director, The Children's Society.
