Equally, violence can happen in same-sex relationships or inrelationships within the extended family. What is important is thatCafcass understands those patterns of behaviour that are most prevalent,while always remaining alert for less usual situations.
We are consulting on a new policy that sets as a standard that we willbe alert to the possibility of domestic violence in private and publiclaw proceedings, even when it has not been alleged (see Consultations,p24).
Parents will be routinely asked about domestic violence separately, andin privacy, at the first meeting or interview. Children will be met withseparately to discuss their wishes and feelings without the influence ofparents or siblings.
