Letter: An integrated workforce

1 min read
The launch of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) must be seen as a positive step for registered childminders.

A lot of the units in the Level 3 Diploma in Home-based Childcare focuson the same stepping stones in child development as laid out in theEYFS.

So it is not so radically different from the practice currentlyhappening.

I want to reassure registered childminders that EYFS is positive foryour practice, and you are more than capable of delivering theframework.

I would ask registered childcarers not to panic and to take up theopportunities for briefings, training and workshops to bring you up tospeed. Achieving outcomes for children is a gradual process ofmonitoring, observing and developing a child throughout their earlyyears; it is not a curriculum for babies that needs to be delivered allin one go.
