Letter: A right to family life

The breakdown in society and family life highlighted by Unicef's report is the Prime Minister and his party's own making (Children Now, 21-27 February).

Since Labour came to office, more than 300,000 children have lostcontact with their fathers because of the family court system, whichfavours mothers and denies children and fathers a right to familylife.

Now we have a generation of children stripped of their right to benourished and cherished by the paternal side of their family. It's nowonder that we are seeing a rise in dysfunctional and anti-socialchildren. So give human rights to the paternal side of a child's family- only then will we have any chance of reversing this downward spiral inour youth.

Government policy continues to undermine the marriage-based family, despite Unicef's report saying the traditional family unit is by far themost stable environment for children.
