The Legal Services Commission plans to introduce a "fixed fee" system for legal advice providers in October, which is based on an average case length of about three hours. But youth organisations argue that cases involving young people take at least 10 hours to resolve.
Roselle Potts, a solicitor from Streetwise Community Law Centre in Bromley, said the changes would not work in the interests of young people. "We're going to be forced into delivering a rubbish service or packing up and going home," she said.
Organisations called for more joined-up policy between the Department for Constitutional Affairs and the Department for Education and Skills on the legal advice needs of young people.
