The money from the Lloyds TSB Foundation will be used to develop an East Midlands training and information service to advocates and professionals who support young people with learning difficulties.
This is a one-year project that aims to help improve services and sensitise workers to the needs of this vulnerable group.
Voice UK has also been commissioned by the NSPCC to consult with young people with learning disabilities about advocacy. The project will identify the advocacy needs of young people with learning disabilities and publish guidelines.
Cath Alton-Williams, child protection project worker, said: "Children and young people with learning disabilities are uniquely vulnerable to abuse. Many victims of crime who have learning disabilities face obstacles to justice. Those who have communication difficulties are regarded as mental defectives and incompetent. We disagree."
