
Experienced midwife Celia Jeffreys was appointed head of the first national centre to tackle Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) when it opened last year. The centre is a partnership between Barnardo's and the Local Government Association aimed at achieving a "systems change" in the provision of services for girls and women affected by FGM. It is funded by the Department for Education.
A recent report by the home affairs select committee described the lack of FGM prosecutions in the UK as "lamentable", with failure by clinicians to record information about abuse as being a major contributory factor. Do you agree with the committee's findings?
