The Communication Cookbook, which has been produced in conjunction with the BT Better World campaign, aims to help children moving from early years into primary schools.
It sets out activities and games focused on the five elements of successful communication: attention and listening; vocabulary; building sentences; conversations; and telling stories.
Wendy Lee, I Can's advisor for primary education, said: "It gives short activities that need five or 10 minutes. It also raises awareness of speaking and listening."
Two pilots found children's writing improved and made more sense after the activities.
A copy of The Communication Cookbook, which launches on 9 July, has been sent to every primary school in England.
