KEEP 'EM OUT: Children help tackle car crime in Sheffield

Lois Dennis and Cyrus Lewis, 10-year-old pupils from Sheffield's Park Hill School, took to the streets to help the police ensure motorists are not leaving their vehicles vulnerable to crime. The children became involved during the launch of the second stage of the Keep 'Em Out campaign, part of Sheffield's crime reduction strategy. Lois, Cyrus and their schoolmates surveyed a car park to see if motorists had left valuables on display.

They then provided information on securing vehicles. While the children patrolled the car park, officers from South Yorkshire Police, traffic wardens and community support officers advised vehicle owners on keeping thieves at bay. There are plans for children to carry out more car surveys, working with Sheffield's vulnerable vehicle team.
