Most of the economy has been battling with the realities of the recession for well over a year now. However, while the national economy is expected to finally come out of recession next year children and young people's projects are expected to bear the full brunt of the downtown in the coming months.
Already councils up and down the country are announcing they will have to make significant savings to balance their books in the future. In Nottinghamshire, for example, the county council plans to cut its youth service budgets by £401,000 and Connexions budgets by £315,000 in order to channel more money into child protection. And in Birmingham, the city council is planning to close some youth clubs and other projects in a bid to save nearly £1m from its children and young people's budget.
