McPherson leapt to national prominence this summer after being appointed head of the Association of Chief Police Officers' (ACPO) first business group devoted to young people.
ACPO Children and Young People brings together existing initiatives, such as the Safer Schools Partnerships and school visits by officers, under the same roof. It is also spearheading ACPO's plans to develop a youth crime strategy for use by the police and all those working with children.
