This is why the Legal Services Commission is funding a unique project totry and make legal services more accessible to young people who needthem. Lawyers for Young People has been set up by Colchester law firmFisher Jones Greenwood LLP (Children Now, 12-18 July).
While there are other projects around the UK that run legal services foryoung people, this is the first time a commercial law firm has beenawarded a not-for-profit contract like this.
Solicitors Liz Frank and Simone Surgenor are heading up the project,which is aimed at young people living in and around Basildon, Chelmsfordand Colchester, which are some of the more deprived areas of Essex. Andthere is a particular focus on helping some of the most vulnerable youngpeople, including those in or leaving care.
