Interview: Playing to the parents - Liz Bayram, chief executive,National Childminding Association

2 mins read
With a background in press and communications, Liz Bayram is perhaps the ideal person to head up the National Childminding Association during a crucial period for the organisation and its members.

The Government is clear that childminders are a key part of its 10-yearchildcare strategy but there is still a big job to do in terms ofpromoting childminding to parents.

"We've made huge inroads and lots of parents are using childminders butsignificant numbers still aren't," says Bayram. "We want to ensure theirdecision not to use a childminder is based on an informed understandingof what they're offering."

This is why the National Childminding Association is working withorganisations like the Royal College of Midwives to reach new parentsand parents to be. Bayram, who took up her new role at the beginning ofthis year, believes raising awareness of childminding is one of thesector's two key challenges.
