Interview: Daycare dream believer - Carol Daniel, founder, Genesis

2 mins read
Thousands of parents in Wales are set to benefit from a ground-breaking idea that flashed into Carol Daniel's mind at three o'clock one morning.

Daniel, head of early years and childcare at Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, conceived a way of working to tackle child poverty and deprivation in the region.

Unlike most concepts dreamt up in the small hours it did not evaporate in the cold light of day, and the Genesis project was born.

Genesis draws together a wide variety of partners with the aim of maximising funding to help parents back into work and training. It is unique in that it channels cash direct to childcare providers. Over the last two years it has helped more than 1,300 parents and should hit its target of reaching 2,000 by 2005.
