From September 2008, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) will form the basis of inspections of provision for young children. The introduction of the EYFS provides Ofsted with the opportunity to bring greater consistency to the inspection of early years provision across the sector.
This consultation document outlines Ofsted's proposals for inspections of early years provision in response to changes introduced by the Childcare Act 2006. It also seeks views on aspects specifically relating to the inspections of early years settings.
From September 2008, all those providing early learning and childcare services in England to children from birth to five-years-old will need to implement the EYFS, regardless of the type of provision or whether it is maintained, private, voluntary or independent.
