Inspections: Knowsley Council -- Inspection of safeguarding and looked-after children's services, February 2010

2 mins read Social Care
Earlier this year, Knowsley became the first local authority in the country to have its capacity for improvement rated "outstanding" for both safeguarding and lookedafter children services.

Overall, Ofsted inspectors rated safeguarding and looked-after children services in Knowsley as "good". Eleven areas were "outstanding", 19 "good" and three "adequate".

"It was a fair and positive report that reflected all the hard work we've put in," says children and family services manager Paul Marshall.

The authority was given just 10 days notice to prepare for the inspection, which took place at the beginning of February.

The 10-day notice period is part of the tougher inspection regime brought in last year after the Baby P case hit the headlines.

The inspection process was a "provoking and stressful experience", says Marshall.

"Your work is put under scrutiny at every level."
