Saltley School's efforts to give older children the skills to help younger pupils have been significantly enhanced in the last two years after the British Red Cross chose it as a venue for one of its formal mentoring schemes.

This brought in the organisational skills of the charity's Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands youth and school service manager Gill Allbutt, who in turn has brought in around six local businesses to help train the pupils for free.
