Inquiry calls for national register of youth clubs

2 mins read Youth Work
A major inquiry into the future of youth clubs has called for a comprehensive public register of clubs in the UK.

In a report set to be published next week, Clubs for Young People will argue that without good local knowledge around provision and need, applicants will struggle to access funding from government schemes such as Youth Capital Fund Plus.

Somewhere to Belong ... A Blueprint for 21st-Century Youth Clubs argues that by introducing a register of clubs, a plan for the development and investment of clubs can be put in place, similar to the Sure Start children's centre strategy.

The reports states: "Just as you can find out where your nearest school or children's centre is, you should be able to find out where your nearest youth club is. This is important not only for strategic planning, but in ensuring young people know what is going on where they live."
