Information sharing: Tories say councils will miss database deadline

The Contactpoint system is designed to improve services by making it easier for professionals to share information on the 11 million children and young people in England. It is due to be fully operational by the end of 2008.

But according to a survey of Conservative local authority cabinet members responsible for children and young people, many councils are struggling with the 224m project.

Loughton said: They are getting very little guidance on this from the Government and many will not be ready. They are confused about what level of system they will need to install. Some are contemplating whether they will be able to introduce it at all. Im not optimistic this will go live next year.
