Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset hope to have a single database forchildren's and adults' social services in place next year and have putit out to tender.
"We believe this to be something quite unique and will meanprofessionals will be better able to care for the needs of theindividual," said Pratap Deshpande, director of children's services forBournemouth.
He said it would not only be more cost-effective but mean a morejoined-up approach that reflected the fact that people may live in onearea but access services in another.
Including children's and adults' social services in one package wouldmean the transition between child and adult care could be bettermanaged, one of the key priorities of the Every Child Matters agenda, headded.
