Independent Review of the Office of the Children's Commissioner: Call for Evidence

What's it all about? The Department for Education has commissioned an independent review of the role of the Office of the Children's Commissioner for England.

Leading the review is John Dunford, general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders. He will gather evidence on the powers, the remit and the function of the office. The Office of the Children's Commissioner was introduced under the 2004 Children Act, to promote the views and best interests of children.

What are the main points?

The government is keen to understand how the role of the Office of the Children's Commissioner relates to other government functions, with a particular focus on its value for money. It is hoped that the evidence gathered will show whether the Office of the Children's Commissioner's role holds the key to England fulfilling its obligations under the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.
