Independent Review Mechanism (Fostering)

Social Care
The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) is seeking views on proposals for the introduction of an independent review mechanism for local authority foster carers.

The mechanism aims to provide an independent review process for prospective carers in the event that their fostering application is turned down. It was announced in the government's white paper Care Matters: Time for Change, which sets out what steps the DCSF will take to improve outcomes for children in care.

It will also provide support for current foster carers where changes are proposed to their existing approval as carers.

The independent review's recommendations will need to be taken into account when the final decision of approving someone as a foster carer is made.

Closing date: 24 December
