The council's Transition and Attendance Good Practice Toolkit for Early Years (0-5) aims to help nurseries and schools make children's transition into services easier. It sets out a range of ways services can support children and has been backed by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
It suggests increasing the number of sessions children starting nursery attend over the space of a week to help them settle more easily and suggests rewarding new primary school pupils with class outings for regular attendance.
Gillian Sanders, attendance initiatives development officer at the council, said: "We're delighted it has been so well received by schools and other early years settings. The toolkit has been shared with colleagues in other parts of the country and the response has been positive."
