In the News: Scaredy dog retires from Northumbria police force over a fear of children

2 mins read

A police dog that is scared of children has been retired from Northumbria Police's dog training section, reported the BBC News website.

Officers were forced to stop training Vegas when it became clear she was too "hesitant and tentative" and not very good at biting. "She didn't particularly take to biting and, unfortunately, although it's not the be-all and end-all of a police dog, it's one of the things they have to do," explained Sergeant John Sim, who works at the force's headquarters in Ponteland, Northumbria. This is despite coming from excellent police dog stock – Vegas's dad is a police dog and her mum is kept by the police for breeding.
