The Daily Mirror plundered mumsnet.com for "comical confessions" from overprotective new parents. "The cringe-worthy stories are making parents across the country feel better, knowing they're not the most obsessive in the world," said the paper, which featured the likes of Greta Hoggan, who panicked when her nine-week-old son accidentally hit himself on the head with a rattle. "I was hysterical. And my husband was on the verge of phoning the NHS helpline," she told the paper. "Both of us took turns hitting ourselves on the head with the rattle to gauge exactly how hard it was."

Other tales included a mum who parked outside the hospital when feeding her son a new food, just in case he had an allergic reaction, and another who rubbed neat baby shampoo in her eyes to see if it stung.
