In the news - An alternative take on last week's media

- "You're Banned ... James Banned", cried a headline in the Islington Gazette with a story that highlights a disturbing new trend of having over-18s-only showings of films certified 12 or less.

Teenagers appear to be singled out as the prime offenders in the mobile phone and sweet rustling stakes and have been banned by the local Vue cinema from selected showings of the new 007 release Quantum of Solace. "He's thwarted evil megalomanaiacs - but it seems Islington's rowdy teenagers are too much even for Bond" was the Gazette's take on it.

Members of Islington's EC1 Youth Council are understandably not happy. Youth worker Michael Poulton, 19, criticised the move: "You need to give young people a chance - they pay money the same as anyone else," he protested.

Oh dear, this could be just what we don't need. Drinks industry newsletter Foodbev reported on the barely contained excitement among beverage types following the launch of a plastic bottle "designed to fly up to 100 feet when empty".
