A third of children have never been to a theme park because their families can't afford the fees, charity 4Children found.

But maybe that's no bad thing in view of recent events. "Mothers and terrified children were stuck 20ft above the ground over a lion enclosure as a power cut plunged a theme park into panic," reported the Daily Mail.

Eleanor Davies, aged 11, was among those caught up in the chaos at Chessington World of Adventures. "One man was sitting in a roller coaster car just whimpering," she told the paper.

Meanwhile, at Thorpe Park, managers were grappling with another problem - BO. "Visitors will no longer be allowed to wave their arms in the air on roller coasters to stop sweaty whiffs offending other passengers," reported the Daily Mirror. Park director Mike Vallis said: "We felt a ban in temperatures of 25C-plus was best to ensure guests have the most enjoyable experience."
