In the Fast Lane - Guernsey children race as part of healthcampaign

Children in Guernsey take part in a one mile race as part of an anti-smoking campaign run by local charity Gasp.

The Christmas Mile Race was organised through the charity's Smokebusters project to encourage young people to be healthier and avoid smoking. Alun Williams, Guernsey Government's lifelong learning manager, said the campaign had helped reduce the number of young smokers. "In recent years we've moved from having double the number of teenage smokers compared to the average in England to half the English average," he said. See Four Islands, p32.
