In Practice: Know how - Marketing

1 min read
Marketing is more usually associated with big business but it's a skill children's centres and extended schools need. There's no point in running fabulous services if no one knows about them. Good marketing can boost take up of everything from childcare to family support and that benefits everyone.

Marketing is not just about leaflets and posters. First and foremost,it's about understanding your market and for children's centres andextended schools that means parents, children and young people and thecommunity. When you set out to market a service it's vital youunderstand what people want and have a good dialogue with users.

Consult formally and informally. Formal methods include usersatisfaction surveys, questionnaires, and parents' evenings. Also gatherinformation informally at dropping off and picking up times and anyother times when parents visit your setting. Make sure you also getfeedback from children and young people by listening to what they sayduring sessions and activities. Establish systems to collect and collatethat information then use it to shape practice.
