The modified car scene has a clear attraction for some young drivers, but it also comes with risks. Dangers include reckless driving, poorly maintained vehicles, and drug use.
To reach out to some of the young people involved in 'cruising', detached youth workers from Young Cumbria have been attending cruise meets at the Hollywood Park complex, in Barrow-in-Furness.
Since November, youth workers have been going out twice a week, taking with them groups who can advise on road safety and car maintenance, and working with Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service.
