IN DEPTH - Children get a better start thanks to parenting classes
Children’s life chances, wellbeing and happiness are profoundly affected by the quality of their experiences during early childhood. Parents have a huge impact on their child’s early development and progress and are the most important influence on their child’s future achievements. Therefore, it is not surprising that around three-quarters of parents say they want information and support so that they can be calm and confident when creating a happy home.
Supporting Families in the Foundation Years, published in July last year, set out the government’s intention for families to be able to benefit from more readily available parenting advice and support from pregnancy until the age of five. The parenting classes trial, called CANparent, was announced in October 2011.
