BACKGROUND

Professional services firm KPMG moved into new offices in 2010 in Canary Wharf, which is surrounded by the less privileged east London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham.

Managers were keen to tap into these surrounding communities to broaden the company's workforce. "In the past, we hadn't really explored the school leaver route, traditionally recruiting from the top universities," says programme lead Alison Fryer. "As our client base becomes more diverse, it's important we have a diverse and talented workforce to match. We believed this talent could be found right on our doorstep."
