Homelessness: Number of rough sleepers is growing

The University of York study, commissioned by youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, found that 6,700 of the 52,000 homeless young people had slept rough.

Researchers also believe that "several thousand" young people are homeless but unknown to local authorities.

Centrepoint is calling on the Government to investigate the extent of youth homelessness. Balbir Chatirk, director of policy and communications at Centrepoint, said: "We need to know the extent of the problem so we can ensure there is good provision available."
