Home-Start is a UK-based family support charity with 340 schemes in local communities across the UK, as well as in British Forces bases abroad. Its volunteers visit families at home to offer personalised support with childcare issues, including practical advice and help to access local services.

Home-Start has a central office in Leicester but all its schemes are independent charities based in their local communities. Staff are based at home or in regional offices.
- What skills do you need to work for Home-Start?
Skills are varied due to the many roles available, such as parent and trustee volunteers, scheme organisers, administrators and managers. Staff at local level must be focused on delivering a unique service to the families they support. Good communication skills are necessary due to the widespread geographical locations of staff.
