Home managers to get own association

Managers of residential children's homes are thrashing out plans to launch an association to represent their interests.

Following a meeting of 40 interested managers last week, a working group is being established to look at how the association might work. It could either take the form of a specialist group within a larger organisation or be independent with links to other organisations.

The managers want an association to speak up on their behalf and help them form a network where they can talk to other managers and share information and training advice.

The association would also support managers in cases where complaints are made against them or disagreement with employers arises.

Claire Carroll, membership development officer for the Social Care Association (SCA), said: "What we are doing now is taking it to a working group stage. People keen to work on shaping it are going to contact SCA and we're going to work with them to take it forward."
