Help from: Women's Aid

Despite the name, Women's Aid helps both children and women affected by domestic violence. Since its formation in 1974, the charity has expanded rapidly. It now supports more than 200,000 women and children every year through its England-wide network of more than 500 local services.

These include resettlement programmes, refuges, outreach services,counselling, court advocacy and drop-in centres. The charity alsooperates a free 24-hour helpline for those suffering from domesticviolence.

Women's Aid also campaigns for improvements to government policy ondomestic violence and holds awareness-raising campaigns across England.And it runs training courses and produces resources forprofessionals.
