The revised guidance, launched by children's minister Beverly Hughes'suggests local authorities do more work with specific groups, such asBlack-Caribbean and looked-after children, where teenage pregnancylevels are high.
It also highlights that the local authorities that have made the mostprogress in reducing teenage pregnancy often put a senior official incharge of lowering rates and had family planning services tailored tolocal young people.
A spokeswoman for fpa said the guidance was on the right track andmarked a new phase in the Government's attempts to halve teenageconceptions by 2010. "The first wave of the strategy is now over and hasbeen successful, reducing the rate by 11.1 per cent. But if we're toreduce the rate further there needs to be targeting of groups whererates are higher," she said.
