The Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Chlamydia Screening Office puts itssuccess down to a high-profile awareness-raising campaign. There hasalso been training for local GPs, practice nurses and health visitors.And the office has launched the Check Your Bits web site featuring thecampaign's gremlin mascot.
Michelle Stamp, chlamydia screening programme manager, said earlypiloting of the materials with young people had fuelled the high take-upof tests.
The young people screened represent around one per cent of thepopulation who can receive the tests.
