Researchers surveyed 23,000 pupils aged 13 and 15, for the ScottishExecutive's Scottish Schools Adolescent Lifestyle and Substance UseSurvey.
Smoking among 13-year-olds has more than halved since 1998, falling fromnine per cent to three per cent among boys and from 11 per cent to fiveper cent among girls. For 15-year-olds, the rate has fallen from 1996'speak of 30 per cent to 12 per cent for boys and 18 per cent forgirls.
The number of teenagers who had had a drink in the last week has droppedby just over five per cent since 2004 to 14 per cent of 13-year-olds and43 per cent of 15-year-olds. The number of 15-year-olds using drugs fellat the same rate.
