The warning comes as all four UK nations consider the future of nursing,with a consultation on modernising nursing in England due outshortly.
A draft report by the Scottish Executive proposes merging school nurses,health visitors, family health nurses and district nurses into a genericcommunity health nurse role.
Nurses would be expected to have taken on the role, with support fromNHS boards, by 2011. By this time, new nurses would also start tograduate in the role.
The draft plan is to be finalised and given to Scotland's healthminister Andy Kerr later this month before publication in September. Theexecutive has argued the plan will help ease recruitment problems.However, nurses fear the plans would see adults prioritised overchildren.
