Health News: Rural Health - Extended schools 'splinter' services

Focusing health services for children in rural areas around extended schools could fragment those services, claims an expert.

Dr Gordon Baird, rural health spokesman for the Royal College of General Practitioners, said that adopting the extended schools model of providing health and social care facilities at or near schools could splinter care.

Baird was commenting after the publication of Healthcare in a Rural Setting by the British Medical Association. It found that health policies were not working in the countryside and that children whose parents did not own cars were vulnerable.
