Health News: Public Health - Social care needs bigger health role

Emphasis on the role of school nurses needs to be balanced by the potential role of social care specialists promoting health among disadvantaged children and families, according to the Association of Directors of Social Services.

In its submission to the health select committee inquiry into the public health white paper, the association said the public health skills of key social care staff should be developed alongside better understanding of their roles by health professionals.

It also suggested that Healthy Schools should be linked to those targeting looked-after children.
