Health News: Primary care trusts - Doctors join attack on mergerprocess

Doctors have joined nurses in attacking the speed with which the Government is seeking to strip primary care trusts (PCTs) of their provider role.

Last week, the Royal College of Nursing applied for a judicial reviewchallenging the Government's launching of the policy without priorconsultation.

In its submission to an inquiry into the changes by Parliament's HealthSelect Committee, the British Medical Association said it had receivedreports of trusts rushing into the merger process without consultationwith GPs or local stakeholders.
