Dr Paul Ramchandani, of the University of Oxford Department ofPsychiatry, presented his findings at the Child and AdolescentPsychiatry Faculty conference in Harrogate last week.
The Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children found postnataldepression in fathers is associated with specific behavioural andemotional problems in their children.
"The evidence strongly suggests that fathers influence their children'sdevelopment from very early in life," said Ramchandani.
He has called for more work to be done on treating and recognisingpaternal postnatal depression.
