A shortage of facilities is preventing parents of sick or premature babies staying with them when they're most vulnerable.
The warning comes at the start of the Greater London Authority Healthand Public Services Committee investigation in neonatal care inLondon.
A response presented by the Royal College of Nursing to the committeesaid that the resources of units who received transferred babies had notbeen increased to accommodate families.
Rob Williams, chief executive of premature baby charity Bliss, said:"Evidence shows a mother's presence can really have a positive effect onthe baby in terms of how it responds to treatment."
