Health News: Mental health - Plans for Scottish services released

Plans to improve mental health services for children in Scotland have been released.

Basic mental health training will be offered to everyone working withchildren, while every school will have a named mental health link workerto help pupils.

Both targets will be met by 2008, according to Delivering for MentalHealth, the Scottish Executive's mental health delivery plan, which waspublished yesterday (5 December).

The plan, which aims to promote good mental health and wellbeing, alsomakes a commitment to halve the number of admissions of children withmental illnesses to adult hospital beds by 2009.

Barbara Herts, chief executive of the charity YoungMinds, said: "Wewelcome these important steps in the process of implementing changes tochildren's mental health services in Scotland."
